ATVs and Old Growth - A Roaded Natural Oximoron
There are many ways in which the proposed Allegheny National Forest management plan makes little sense, or is an outright contradiction. One of these is how the proposed plan overlaps ATV use within the forest with habitat intended for wildlife and plant species that prefer old growth forest conditions. The map below Shows the proposed old growth corridors in green and the proposed ATV "Intensive Use Areas" in red. Note how the corridors actually lie within the ATV habitat.
